It’s been you dream to make a violin. Perhaps you love
working with wood, and have always wanted to attempt making a violin. Maybe
you’ve gone to violin making school and learned the traditional methods of
violin making passed down from the workshops of the masters. Now you have set
out to give the world a new set of violins bearing your name…
Whether it’s your first violin, or if you are an
experienced maker, Mystic Violin’s selection of spruce tonewood will have something to
offer. Our spruce tonewood is seasoned and ready to work. Mystic Violin spruce tonewood is
old wood, some pieces as old as 35 years! All of our spruce tonewoods were
purchased from the Pacific Northwest, where the wood was air-dried outside. No
green woods here! The tap tones of each piece of tonewood we offer sound clear.
Our domestic spruce tonewood comes quarter sawn in book-match split spruce
wedges. All cuts are identified by number in the symbol delta. The pieces that
you see featured on the website are the actual tonewood cuts that you receive.
We have hundreds of sets of wood; what you see on our tonewood page is a very
small sliver of what we have in our warehouse. At your request, Mystic Violin
will flatten and join the pieces, using only the highest grade hide glue, for an
additional $50 fee. Please inquire for service. Since the quality of the wood is
directly proportional to the quality of tone your instrument will yield, it is
crucial that you choose the right tonewood that will respond tonally when it is
crafted into an instrument. We are sure we have the right tonewood for you.
