Paganini, Paganini, Mortal, demon, witch or genie, Mephistophelean maestro Of the mystic violin! With the sting of your staccato And your prickly pizzicato, When you'd diddle on your fiddle It was little short of sin!
Scott Emmons
One of the most challenging, yet rewarding, instruments to play in all the world, the violin, with its timeless, classical appearance and mesmerizing sound, enjoys a renewed fascination with every generation.
Playing the violin takes an incredible amount of discipline and commitment. The performer must marry a honed technical ability with instinct, reflection, and not least, passion. Making a violin requires a multi-faceted craftsman who possesses a superb knowledge of the scientific properties of the natural world, the principles of mathematics, and an eye for style in order to render a dynamic violin which is powerfully projective and tonally rich, yet elegant and aesthetic in design.
The violin, as we know it today, evolved over a period of roughly 1,000 years, during which it was reshaped, refined, fine-tuned, and theorized over by a multitude of makers from around the world. Methods of construction were tested and argued over to determine which combinations would yield the best tone, volume, and playability. Finally, in the 17th century, Italian maker Nicolò Amati crafted a violin which would become the universal template accepted by all countries and cultures, encompassing several genres of music including Classical, Folk, and Gypsy music. But it was Antonio Stradivari, a student of Amati, who perfected the violin. His workshop in Cremona, Italy produced the some of the finest violins (which also fetch the highest prices) the world has ever seen. These violins set the standard of excellence in violin making; leaving virtuosos such as Nicolò Paganini, Yehudi Menuhin, and Itzhak Perlman to realize their instrument’s full potentials through the music of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and other great composers who have, with their music, made the violin and international star.
With its blending of engineering, science, and beauty, the violin stands as a unique achievement in the history of art and human ingenuity.
Mystic Violin has assembled an outstanding collection of violins for every price range, including our own line of European-made workshop violins. Whether you are a student, amateur, or professional, there is something in the Mystic Violin collection of violins for you.
